Sewage Sludge Platform
- Treatment
The Sewage Sludge Platform is a comprehensive research and testing facility dedicated to the characterization, treatment, and valorization of sludge from wastewater treatment processes. It brings together a wide range of analytical and experimental equipment to investigate the physical, chemical, biological, and mechanical properties of sludge and related effluents, supporting both process monitoring and environmental assessment.
The platform includes advanced instrumentation for physico-chemical and biological analyses, enabling the monitoring of key treatment parameters and sludge quality. It is also equipped with specialized facilities to study the rheological, microstructural, and transfer properties of dewatered sludge, providing valuable insights for optimizing dewatering, drying, and resource recovery processes within a circular economy perspective.
Experimental rigs at laboratory and pilot scales support research on sludge dewatering technologies, including the influence of conditioning methods, operational parameters, and solid-liquid separation systems on final dryness and filtrability. Complementary facilities are dedicated to convective and conductive sludge drying, allowing the study of drying kinetics, heat and mass transfer, energy efficiency, and dried product quality across multiple scales.
The platform further includes innovative pilot systems for wastewater and sludge treatment using microalgae, coupled with hydrodynamic analysis of treatment reactors. These installations support the development of advanced biological treatment processes and the optimization of sustainable technologies for sludge management, treatment performance, and effluent valorization.
